A stay on The Whitsunday Islands

The Great Barrier Reef does have some real islands as opposed to the barren atolls you see in the brochures. The Whitsundays are one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Whitehaven Beach for example is pretty much perfection. The Australians have kept the Whitsunday's to themselves, but we got the chance to go there and couldn't believe how fabulous these islands are.

The Whitsundays lie halfway up the Queensland coast, a group of about 70 islands bordered rising out of impossibly blue water.

All around there are coral gardens which are as good as any other in the world so we snorkeled and dived all week, but there was also sailing on offer.

We stayed on Hayman Island, the most northerly island in the Whitsunday Island group. The resort is a five star resort newly upgraded and staffed very well.

We enjoyed having meals served on our private balcony which allowed for very intimate evenings.

If you are looking for the very top levels of service, accommodation and
beach based entertainments, then the Whitsundays off Australia's Great barrier reef will not disappoint.
