Review of the Hilton, Cairns
We chose to come to the Hilton closest to the great barrier reef after experiencing the Hilton in Hurghada, Egypt the previous year. The Hilton is in a great location, close to where you catch the boats out to the reef. The whole hotel complex looked as if it had recently undergone a major spring clean. As a result our room was both exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The air con did a good job of overcoming the humidity.
We
received wonderful service from all the staff all week and looked forward
to the food on offer. My tip is DO NOT MISS THE BUFFET BREAKFAST.
Just outside the Hilton hotel complex is the wharf where you choose the tour operators who take groups out to the reef. We went with Ocean Spirit who were very pleasant. Once you leave the Hilton itself, Cairns has some bad, some good, and some excellent restaurants, so ask the concierge for recommendations. The one night we chose for ourselves we ended up eating fould food in a nasty shack miles from anywhere!
