We wanted a nice hotel within easy reach of Brighton on the south coast of England, and so we booked Amberley Castle which is a 15 minute drive away, high on the rolling hills called the South Downs.

Wow! what a total fairlytale. We could have stayed forever. Amberley Castle is over 800 years old and has been visited by kings and queens. And now we were there in a four poster bed with tapestries on the walls like some duke and duchess of the realm.

We were woken by birdsong and the calling of Peacocks on the lawn, and after a leisurely breakfast we just had a short drive down to the coast. It was fabulous. There are real suits of armour and all manner of stuff. Its halfway between a hotel and a museum, but not a bit stuffy. Everyone was really friendly and urged us to treat the place like home (they clearly had never seen the state of my home or they wouldn't have said that).

Amberley Castle has been voted in the 'World's Top 20 Leisure Hotels' by readers of Condé Nast Traveller Magazine and it totally get the reason why. The food was excellent, the staff were excellent, the facilities were excellent and even the bed linnen was the finest I have ever slept in.

If you are going to England, do it in royal style and book a stay at Amberley Castle.
