The Belfry

We wanted a mix of seeing Olde England and getting in some top class golf.

We chose the Belfry because we liked the look of it when we watched the Ryder Cup matches on television. We were pleased to discover that it is actually even prettier in real life. We had also been to London before, but never anywhere else in the country of England so this was a chance to broaden our horizons.

Located in North Warwickshire ( you pronouce it "War-ick-sher") in the very middle of England, there are more than 500 acres of countryside, to swing a 9 iron around at the Belfry. All of it is kept immaculate. The golf pros were fantastic and I really improved all aspects of my golfing play in just a few hours of tuition.

The holiday wasn't going to be all about golf. We liked the fact that it is easily accessible from the motorway because it meant we didn't have to preplan our adventures. We could jut jump in to a hire car and be off.

Everything seemed so close. The staff were really good at suggesting itineries for trips to Stratford, to see Shakespeare's house which was really old and very beautiful, Nottingham to drink in the Oldest pub in England (called "The Trip to Jerusalem") plus medieval ruined castles and Roman and even older ruins. There was so much to see.

We particularly enjoyed our trip to Ironbridge george, where the whole industrial revolution started. There is a theme park of the Industrial revolution in a town called Dudley that is like travelling in a time warp back to the nineteenth Century. All the staff act as if it was still 1850 or so.

The Belfry itself is luxurious and as well kept as the grounds outside. The golf at the Belfrey is truly first class and very enjoyable, even in the rain. Any by God does it rain in England in Early Summer.
