Dove Hotel, Regency Square, Brighton
We have stayed at quite a few hotels in Brighton over the years. Brighton is a great town on the South coast of England. The beach at brighton is made of large pebbles but despite the lack of sand Brighton is very popular with visitors. Many people from London still come to Brighton for a 'dirty weekend' away. The Dove Hotel on Regency Square looks great from outside, located just yards from the brighton sea front, facing the derilict west pier. This is the second of Brighton's two piers. The other (the palace pier) has a funfair at the end. The west pier has been destroyed by arson, weather and neglect, but the rusting iron hulk is at present one of Brighton's most beautiful, if somewhat sad sights.
Upon
arrival at the Dove Hotel my heart was filled with a little trepidation. I
remembered from past experience that these old town house hotels seemed to
be dirty, dingy places inside staffed by indifferent people. The Dove like
all the other regency square buildings is showing its age to a small degree,
but we were pleasantly surprised to find the owners of this particular brighton
hotel had done a rather splendid job of making us feel welcome, cared for
and generally well looked after.
The facilities at Brighton's dove hotel
The rooms were well decorated and bright. Facilities were basic but everything worked and above all was clean. The beds were good and (on room 1 at least) there was ample space. The dove hotel's breakfast room was modern, and very tidy. They really had made a great effort here and should be commended for it.
I knew that at the very cheap prices I was paying to stay at the Dove in Brighton I was never going to get five star luxury, but what I did get was great value hotel hospitality in a comfortable, clean and welcoming environment. We left Brighton with the Dove Hotel on Regency Square marked as a hotel in England that we would be happy to return to, and that is really what counts isn't it?
