The White Hart Inn, Dorchester, Oxfordshire, England

A great hotel provides a base near Oxford in one of the top 10 most beautiful villages in England.

The White Hart Inn is in a handy location for exploring the Cotswolds and Oxfordshire, and has been a hotel for many centuries. This is a ramshackle vernacular building and has a thoroughly lived-in feel. This is meant in the best possible way, because it is not in any way shabby or poorly kept, (quite the opposite) it is simply that the place exudes a warmly historic atmosphere.

The White Hart is located on the high street in the village of Dorchester, or more correctly, Dorchester on Thames. Many people come to Dorchester to see the stunning abbey church which is immense and totally out of proportion with quaint little Dorchester village.

The White Hart hotel has 28 bedrooms but each is unique. This old coaching inn is not the place for people who want an homoginised experience. This is a truly british hotel. Many rooms have ancient oak beamed roofs and king sized beds and all have satellite TV, en-suite bathrooms with baths and power showers, tea & coffee making facilities, and hair dryers as you would expect. Downstairs in winter, ancient log fires are burning, to greet visitors returning from walks.

The restaurant is good (although not exceptional) and the wine list is better than average. When the bill came we were very pleased with the price. Therefore over all we were very impressed with the White Hart in Dorchester.
