Ca' dei Conti Hotel, Venice
The Hotel Ca' dei Conti is great italian base from which to explore the wonders of Venice.
We stayed for 4 nights at the Ca dei' Conti Hotel in Early December 2005. Overall we rated the facilities location and service highly.
Arriving in Venice
If you come by plane to Marco Polo airport in venice, I urge you to go to take the the free shuttle (or short walk) to the boat terminal and catch an Alilaguna waterbus to the heart of Venice. A cheap way of seeing the city in all its glory on your way in to Venice
Finding your hotel
Finding your hotel upon arrival in Venice can be a bit of a nightmare due to the labyrinthine maze of streets. Thankfully, the free map of Venice provided on the hotel's web site is a model of clarity and will get you safely from St Mark' Square to the hotel Ca dei' Conti in an easy three minute walk. The hotel is close to the Santa Maria Formosa Church, one of the oldest churches in Venice.
Upon arrival at the hotel we were struck by the beautifully marbled lobby and the warm Venice welcome from the staff.
Room 201 of the Ca dei Conti Hotel has a high ceiling and is sumptuously decorated in a rococo style which actually makes the hotel room look smaller than it really is. The beds are firm and supporting with immaculate linens which were changed daily. The bathroom is quite small, but appointed to the very highest standards. The usual fluffy white hotel towels, complementary hotel soaps, hotel shampoos and so on were all there. After a good inspection of all the detailing and finishing I was happy to note that the room was not a cheap attempt to look classy, but was the real deal. The size of the room was the only thing dropping the Ca' dei Conti into the lower reaches of the 4 star hotel range.
The bedroom had a 16 Channel cable television although the only english channel available was CNN. Still we were in Venice, so who wants to know about anything other than this city of dreams?
A great breakfast buffet was served on the first floor of the hotel. This was right outside our room but we never heard a thing until we opened the door. I suspect they have recently soundproofed the wall between bedroom 201 and the breakfast room! The paintings in the breakfast room (views of Venice) are impressive in scale but laughable in execution. The decor of baby blue and pink walls is a bit tough on the eyes first thing in the morning, but the food was very fine.
The location is excellent. Being a few minutes from St Mark's allows you to re-orient yourself when you get lost (and everyone gets lost in Venice). We found the staff to be friendly all week and we had a great trip. I am happy to recommend the Ca' dei Conti hotel for anybody taking a vacation in Venice, Italy.
