Florence
great cities to visit in Italy:
What is so great about Florence?
Florence is a fantastic city for a number of reasons. Firstly, Flerence has
great Museums. Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery, Palatina Gallery
Bargello Museum, Medici Chapels, San Marco Museum, Archaeological Museum,
Pitti Palace, Silverware Museum, Costume Museum and the Bardini Garden are
all worth a visit.
Secondly, the food is excellent. Tuscan cooking is noted for its rounded flavours and interesting juxtapositions. In Florence you will be delighted by the food.
The light. If you want a preview I reccomend the film "A Room With A View" which shows what the light is like.
Anything Else?
The Ponte Vecchio is a middle ages bridge that really gives you a great insight
into what Florence used to be like as a city.
History of Florence
Florence dates back to Roman times. The city was set at the confluence of
two streams, the Arno and the Mugnone.
Rectangular in plan, it was enclosed in a wall about 1800 meters long with
straight roads crossing at right angles.
The earliest indications of the Christian church dedicated to San Lorenzo
was consecrated in 393.
