Cornucopia Hotel, Gozo Reviewed

Gnien Imrik Street
Xaghra 102
Gozo
Malta

There are no flights directly to Gozo, so we flew to Malta. The drive to the ferry terminal on Malta is a bit 'twisty' and can take a while. Then a ferry hops across to Gozo and a taxi takes you to Xaghra. The pronounciation is 'Shara'.

cornucopia hotel gozoThe Cornucopia hotel (pronounced 'dull') sits on a rocky barren gozo landscape above the small town. Apparently it was featured on the british TV holiday program 'Wish you were here' but I think Judith Chalmers must have been having an off day. I wouldn't wish the Cornucopia Hotel, Xaghra on anyone.

It isn't particularly bad, the beds aren't particularly hard, the food isn't particularly awful, the gozitan cockroaches aren't particularly big and the location isn't particularly inaccessable, but...

However, It was bad enough. The beds were a little hard, the food wasn't great, the cockroaches on Gozo may be small, but there were too many in our room and the location isn't that great. They describe themselves as being located a "stones' throw away from the the ever popular Marsalforn Bay". All Ican say is they must have strong throwing arms in Gozo.

The staff at the cornucopia were largely either surly or incompetent. Lots of thumbs in soupbowls and promises of fresh towels.

Had they advertised the Cornucopia hotel on gozo as three star, this review would have been a lot more forgiving, but the whole place was a bit decrepit, past its best and in need of a shake up.

On the other hand, the view was nice, the pool was clean and the entertainment night was just plain wacky! It was only a 20 minute walk to the ancient temples of GGantija which really are worth a look.

I know others have written glowing reviews of this hotel, so maybe if you follow their lead you will enjoy your stay at the Cornucopia Hotel, in Xaghra, on the island of Gozo. I wish you all the best.
