The Fairmont Royal York Hotel Reviewed
Canada's biggest city's landmark hotel.
The Fairmont Royal York is the one you see on all the photos.
Last time I came to Toronto was on a business trip 12 years before and I stayed
in cheap accomodation. Now I own the company and decided to revisit Toronto
Firstly let me say I really like Canada and the canadians so it will be hard for me to be objective, but I will try my best.
The Fairmont Royal York is set right in the heart of downtown in a clean safe neighbourhood immediately across from Union Station.
The Fairmont Royal York was opened in 1929 and must have been one of the biggest buildings in Toronto back then. These days, despite being a large block-like building it looks a little swamped by the surrounding skyscrapers. However, because it faces the lake there will always be a wonderful view from south facing rooms on the higher floors and wonderful sunsets to watch in comfort.
I was really impressed by the hand-painted ceilings and other decor (e.g. the huge chandeliers) which are all original.
The room service was ecellent, as befits a hoel where the queen stayed recently but if I was to complain about anything, then the waiter service in the restaurant was a little slow and surly.
According to the literature in the room, The Fairmont Royal York is the ultimate
downtown Toronto hotel. After a few days there I am inclined to agree.
