Le Parker Meridien - 5* in New York Reviewed

The Le Parker Meridien is on 118 West 57th Street New York in midtown Manhattan, just up the road from Carnegie Hall.

The hotel really is luxurious and service is impecable, but with 600 rooms you sometimes feel the personal touch has gone and they are doing everything by the numbers.

Probably an unfair criticism since nobody at the Le Parker Meridien in New York City was anything other than professional and charming, but it is a feeling I had nonetheless.

The lobby is full of uncomfortable benches and uncomfortable art on the walls. What is wrong with paint on canvas? They had bits of rubber pipe masquarading as art.

The rooms to be fair were tasteful and clean although a little small for a five star establishment. If you have ever holidayed in venice there will be a sense of deja vu.

Other than that I thought the hotel was slightly overpriced and that on some fundamental level I didn't really fit in. I am basically a lazy old slob, but I kept being reminded of the gym opening hours! The rest of the guests scurried about faster than the staff carrying laptops, mobiles and other gizmos as if their lives depended on them. I had to complain about a suited couple in the breakfast bar (good breakfasts at Norma's) shouting down their mobile phones while I was trying to enjoy a waffle or two. They looked at me as if I were mad for wanting abit of peace first thing in the morning.

I think you have to be young and energetic to fully enjoy the atmosphere of the Le Parker Meridien.
