Padstow

United Kingdom

On the north coast of Cornwall in England's far west, the quaint little fishing village of Padstow has beome one of the west's most famous destinations. Much of the reason for this is Rick Stein's The Seafood Restaurant which has, over the last twenty five years, established an internationally renown reputation for high quality fish and seafood. Rick's cantankerous pet dog Chalkie was a great favourite with tv viewers and himslf became a local celeb who is now sadly missed.

Padstow's other restaurants have worked hard to keep up with Stein's standards of excellence resulting in a foodie town (mockingly known as Padstein by some London based food writers). In recent years that other famous chef Jamie Oliver followed Rick and opened his own restaurant in the same town.

With all that great food, it is good to know that Padstow is also a bit of a Mecca for walkers, with paths leading from town in both directions along the Camel estuary. Directly across the water from Padstow is the small village of Rock. This village has another nickname; being called "Chelsea on Sea" for the great number of millionaire's mansions which can be found in the surrounding area. This also has its benefits, with l'Estuaire restaurant giving Padstow's finest a run for their money. So, the light is great, the food is great, the people are interesting and the surf is world class. Padstow is a top British resort and well worth a visit. Daytrippers do get to enjoy the place, but those who stay over get the unrivalled pleasure of quiet streets, warm inviting evenings in the restaurants or just strolling in the village.
