Castles in London
United Kingdom, South East, London
To the west of London on a bend of the river Thames near Hammersmith is Hampton Court Palace. Built in the 1500s it is a fine example of a Tudor royal palace with stunning rooms, great gardens and lots more. 2 real highlights are the gold and silver threaded tapestries (the second most expensive treasure in England after the crown jewels) and the restored Tudor kitchens which give visitors a real understanding of live for servants of the tudor court.
Both of these royal castles are worth visiting but if you have only time for one then I suggest you get on a train to Windsor. just 1 hour from Waterloo station is historic Windsor, home of the world's greatest castle and the place the royal family still call home after almost a thousand years of occupancy. there is so much to see and do in the castle and in the town. You may also add a tour of Eton college, just a short walk across the river to make a whole day trip that you will treasure forever.

Windsor in the evening
In the evening in Windsor take a private guided tour of Windsor town and see it in a totally different light. You can find out all about the way the town and castle have interacted (not always peacefully) over the centuries.
