Chips with everything

Belgium, Flanders, Bruges

OMG! I think it is time to pack up the house, kick out the cat and move to Belgium. They have recently opened the world's first chip museum.

The Frietmuseum in Bruges is a celebration of the humble fried potato in the country where soggy chips just never happen. The Belgians are truly obsessive about their Frites and so it must have seemed to curator Eddy Van Belle that a museum was an obvious thing to open.

I am not so sure that the French and German visitors to this delightful city will get what Eddy is about, but we Brits should flock there in droves to join in and worship at the fluffily centred, crispily exteriored altar.

Once you have learned why the little beggars are called French Fries in the USA and have watched the kitch, "How to Cook a chip" video head downstairs to the basement cafe and order yorself some of Belgium's finest, straight out of the fryer. Mayonaise, the traditional Belgian accompaniament to chips is of course optional.
