Inland Spain

Spain, Valencia, Dos Aguas

Most visitors stick to the Spanish coastline, but in doing so miss some truly amazing experiences. The mountains near Valencia for example have many delights for visitors.

Just one example is the countryside around the village of Dos Aguas on the edge of the Muela de Cortes nature reserve near Valencia. We discovered some remarkable views and really enjoyed the winding roads taking us up from the plain to cooler regions where precipices and rockfaces seemed to battle each other for the title of most impressive.

Just a mile out of Dos Aguas a modern bridge crosses a gorge over the Jucar river and we stopped the car to walk for a bit. We discovered a dreamlike valley with a crystal blue river teeming with fish. The path led to the desolate ruins of a romantic castle, crumbling into the earth from where it once began.

Eagles circled overhead and apart from the gentle rustle of the reeds, all was perfect silence.
