Palma Reviewed

Spain, Mallorca, Palma

Mallorca's capital has medieval architecture sitting side by side with new swish apartments. In England we would be complaining about the despoilation of a traditional town, but over there it seems to work. Maybe it was the sangria and tapas, but I really began to enjoy this town very quickly.

For a start, it is by the sea, with all the great light and sunst views that come with such a location.

Secondly the food is really great. Down the road in Magaluf it might be chips with everything, but here you can taste authentic Spanish food and real local delicacies without the whif of a french fried potato ever accosting your nostrils. Our tip is to try the wild produce. We had wild mushrooms that tasted better than any we have ever experienced.

The islanders are genial hosts, but are naturally reserved at first. Too much mass tourism has taught them to be wary of over friendly foreign visitors, but in a short tme, strong friendships can develop.

In short, if you ignore Palma, you are missing a trick. We really think the city deserves to be respected as an authentic thriving city with plenty to see and do.
