Zattere is perfect for a stroll

Italy, Veneto, Venice

Venice is wonderful, but sometimes the narrow streets and high buildings can crowd you in a bit, leaving you feeling the need for a bit of space. The Piazza di San Marco with its endless tourists streams may actually feel more oppressive than the alleyways, and if this is the case, head over to Zattere. A half mile long strip of west facing wide canal bank is where Venice gets the lasts of the sunlight in winter and is a popular spot for natives who stroll here. Join them to enjoy the crisp air and crisp clothing of the people who walk up and down in their finery. Views across to Giudecca can be enchanting and you may see painters setting up to catch the last of the evening light. There are a few little cafes half way along the Zattere where the cost isn't half what it is around St. Mark's square.
