Luxor Regente Hotel, Rio de Janeiro
We went to Brazil in December 2004 and stayed in Rio, right on Copacabana beach at the Luxor Regente Hotel.
The city is magical and quite unlike any other city I have been to. The people are incredibly sexy when they dance the Smaba (and they ALL dance the Samba) and the landscape is sexier still. There are hundreds of small islands to explore and the beach is a city in itself with so much going on all the time.
Sites we feel you shouldn't miss include the view from the Statue of Christ the Redeemer and the Tijuca National Park.
The hotel was a base to retreat to when Rio was too exhausting for old codgers like us. There is a great pool, which looks out onto the beach.
The air conditioning worked well and the beds were comfy, although the decor was not to our taste. However, the restaurant food was to our taste. In fact it was excellent and the waiters were eager to advise on what was particularly good on that day. You may think 'I bet they did' but really, they even suggested we leave the restaurant and go to a special Churrascarias restaurant that at the staff were raving about.
We loved Brazil and want to go back in two years time. We hope you like our review.
